Montreal trio Land of Talk are set to release their much anticipated debut full-length, Some Are Lakes on October 7. The album was recorded in Montreal with Justin Vernon (Bon Iver), and is the follow up to their acclaimed 2006 EP, Applause, Cheer, Boo, Hiss, which garnered critical acclaim across the country and internationally, in such publications as Paste, Spin, the Toronto Star, who said, “Indie-rock guitar goddess-in-waiting Elizabeth Powell’s crunchy, enervated buzz-pop songs are even more striking live than they are on this hugely accomplished debut." Land of Talk have toured extensively over the past two years, including opening for The Decemberists and Tapes n' Tapes. A Canadian east coast tour is set to kick off Sept. 18 before the band hits the U.S. opening for Broken Social Scene Oct. 8 - 26, with Powell handling female vocal duties."Powell's chirpy but raw-edged vocals and rolling guitar call to mind PJ Harvey's finest moments." – Spin"Powell finds a way to balance early Cat Power fragility with PJ Harvey volatility." - Pitchfork"Liz Powell has a voice that flits between come-hither and go-fuck-yourself" - Time Out NY |
