Les Breastfeeders    (edit)

Breastfeeders

Montreal’s rock ‘n’ roll sextet, Les Breastfeeders have been seducing the public’s and critic’s minds alike ever since they first hit the scene in 1999. The members ; Luc (lead vocals, guitar), Suzie McLelove (lead vocals, guitar), Sunny (lead guitar), Joe (bass), Johnny Maldoror (vocals, tambourine player), and Fred Fortin (drums since 2005) have all come together to create a fresh upbeat style with influences from the sixties French and Québecois yéyé garage sounds. Their highly acclaimed live performances are living proof that rock ‘n’ roll is still alive. In 2003, Les Breastfeeders’ song ANGLE MORT received the Prix de la chanson primée from the SOCAN and the band received a prize from the Office Franco-Québecois pour la jeunesse for their career development in France. Months in the studio followed, and with the help of Michel Dagenais (Jean Leloup, Marc Déry) and Bob Olivier (Les Mods, Biberons Bâtis, Lilison Di Kinara) as co-producers, Les Breastfeeders gave birth to their long awaited debut album DÉJEUNER SUR L’HERBE on the Blow The Fuse label in 2004.The album is a blend of catchy tunes and rythms, charismatically enhanced by Luc’s wild and Suzie’s sexy voices. The band’s contagious energy as an ensemble has spiked the attention of Radio-Canada (Sacré Talent Event) and of radio stations south of the border and beyond. Last February, they played their first ever gigs in the U.S.. Playing in New Jersey and New York City. In spring 2005, they received the Power and Bête de scène awards, in the public vote category, at the MIMIs (Montreal Independant Music Initiative), then helped out the students on strike by playing at Metropolis. Their videos for « Mini-Jupe et Watusi » and « Ça Ira » invaded Musiqueplus airwaves before their second trip back to the States, where they were welcomed once again in NYC (WFMU, The Knitting Factory), New Jersey (Asbury Lanes), Hoboken, Boston, Chicago, Philadelphia, Indianapolis and Cleveland and St-Louis . All that in French ! Last summer, they toured the province, passing by Quebec city, for La Fête Nationale and Festival d’Été de Québec (alongside The New York Dolls), where they were awarded the Prix Miroir de l’Artiste d’Ici, came back for the Francofolies de Montréal in August and the list goes on… Winter 2005, they participated on the Joe Dassin tribute album entitled Salut Joe, and are presently on radio charts with their rendition of Bip-Bip. They recently played on the West Coast for the first time, in Vancouver, for the Bande à Part/CBC Radio 3 Tour. They’ve released the first single (Tout va pour le mieux dans le pire des mondes) off their second album, Les Matins de Grands Soirs, which is to be released in August 2006. !
